146 - 365 DAYS WITH JESUS

26 May

Today's Reading:

šŸ“– Matthew 18:21–35

Matthew 18:21–35 AKJV

21Ā Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22Ā Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. 23Ā Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. 24Ā And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. 25Ā But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26Ā The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 27Ā Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. 28Ā But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. 29Ā And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 30Ā And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. 31Ā So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32Ā Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33Ā shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? 34Ā And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35Ā So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Today's Question:

šŸ’¬ I’m sure we have all read and heard this parable many times, so it is hard to bring something new. But one part that stood out to me was v35 ā€œfrom his heart.ā€ What does it mean to forgive from our heart?

How does this reading plan work?

Through one year we will read through the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), The Desire of Ages, and Christ’s Object Lessons.

As you start on this reading plan I want to remind you that the purpose of doing this is not merely to read through the gospels and the other two books, it is not to merely learn facts but instead our main desire should be to know Jesus. Notice how we are to read:

ā€œIt would be well for us to spend a thoughtful hour each day in contemplation of the life of Christ. We should take it point by point, and let the imagination grasp each scene, especially the closing ones.ā€ Desire of Ages p83.4

The temptation will be to read through the pages quickly. Resist this urge. Read slowly, think about what each point means. Think from your perspective, those people who are mentioned, and of course that of Jesus.

Not that I need to tell you, but we must approach this with prayer. The same Holy Spirit who inspired the Bible writers is willing to guide us today, if we but ask for Him.

There is also a question each day that is there to encourage you to think deeply on the reading.
